Chelsea fan banned for three years after homophobic chants at Brighton match

Chelsea fan banned for three years after homophobic chants at Brighton match
A Chelsea fan has been fined almost £1,000 and banned for three years from attending football matches after being found guilty of homophobic chants.

George Bradley, 20, pleaded guilty to “using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress”.

The incident took place in December’s game between Chelsea and Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Darren Balkham, Sussex Police’s football policing officer: “This was a great example of the stewarding and policing operation at the stadium taking action when incidents occur.

“I would urge any supporter attending the Amex to report these incidents to either a steward or police officer to allow us to take action at the time.”

Brighton said in their own statement:: “We would remind all fans that we will not tolerate any form of abusive behaviour at the stadium.”

This is the third incident of abusive behaviour by Chelsea fans this season.

In another match in December, between Chelsea and Manchester City, Raheem Stering was allegedly racially abused by a Chelsea fan.

And in Chelsea’s trip to Hungarian side MOL Vidi, fans were reported to have made anti-Semitic chants and brought anti-Semitic banners to display.
