●Between Alex Iwobi & Chelsea
The 2019 Europa League final has personally placed me in a dilemma. I am caught in the web of supporting my darling club, Chelsea and my compatriot, Alex Iwobi.
I don’t want Chelsea to end the season empty-handed especially as key player, Eden Hazard is leaving after the Battle of Baku. Similarly, a winners medal will place Iwobi in the hall of fame as a Nigerian who did the rest of us proud even if in Arsenal colours.
Iwobi is the only Nigerian in the finals of both the UEFA Champions League coming up on the 1st of June in Madrid and the Europa League final in Baku today.
My heart tells me, for Iwobi’s sake, Arsenal should nick it….but my brain says, there can be only one Blues…which is the real pride of London which I must stand by to add the Baku laurel to their trophy cabinet.
I may not be alone in this dilemma even as many Chelsea fans will come hard on me for saying the truth and my mind. I expect them to say that I am not a true Chelsea fan but I know I am….But is it wrong to say BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER in this circumstance and situation?
When you are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea….What do you do? When or if you must allow one person between your mother and wife to leave the boat to avoid you all sinking, who must it be? What do you do? Yes, some may ask, “Are you on Iwobi’s payroll?” Or what do you benefit from Iwobi? I dare say, ‘Nothing….other than, he is a Nigerian….after all the nose is closer to the mouth than the jaw….A win for Arsenal will have his name in history and Nigeria will be attached to that name.
Yet I love my Bluuuuuuuuueeeeesssss no doubt!!!
Can I eat my cake and have it? Where do my support pendulum swing to?
Who do I support in this all important fixture and cup final?
