● But Sarri’s Watch Will Keep Saying 6 O’clock…..
Zinedine Zidane has given his conditions to join Chelsea….a major concern for embattled Maurizio Sarri if Roman Abrahamovich chooses to consider those conditions. But what will propel the Russian’s choice and action will be the outcome of the FA Cup duel between another Manchester side, Manchester United and Chelsea….the venue doesn’t matter at all. Not in this encounter…..This is another major concern.
For those who still remember the 6-0 thrashing Chelsea suffered in the hands of Manchester City in the EPL at the Etihad, needless reminding them that this fixture with Manchester United is very crucial and could decide the future of Sarri at Stamford Bridge.
Can any true fan of Chelsea like Yours Sincerely forget so soon that painful defeat by City? It is now a reference point even as today’s fixture in the FA Cup comes to bear. Let’s painfully look back at that sad yet ugly defeat to determine the fate of Sarri after tonight’s tie.
When a coach/manager suffers a huge defeat which dents his career record and “soils” the image, record and reputation of his team, he naturally talks a walk.
Sarri won’t take a walk after the scandalous 6-0 whacking his received from ruthless Manchester City but surely, the Italian knows that his time is up at Stamford Bridge.
He is only managing the situation to avoid another disgraceful defeat which could be he icing on the cake. The “sorry defeat” suffered in the hands of the Citizens is s classical case of a team handled by an amateur or inexperience coach. Of course, Sarri is very much experienced but when your team is three goals down, you don’t go defensive especially when your opponents are coming at you ruthlessly.
Going defensive is accepting defeat already and in such situation you don’t seal your attack. You have to take the fight to the opponents irrespective of the scoreline after all, you are already down…but you should avoid being out!
Conceding four goals in less than 30 minutes does not mean outright defeat. More so, going defensive in the first half due to “loads” of early goals is a sign of chickening out. These are not the trademarks of a manager in the class of Sarri.
Sarri’s problem in the defence started when he openly condemned dimunitive N’Golo Kante who anchors the combative role in the midfield thus, covering the defence.. He destroyed the morale of the World Cup winner just because he preferred the player he brought in Jorginho. Kante’s irregular presence in the holding role of Chelsea weeks leading to that fateful game against City created huge problems for the backline of Chelsea. Only Sarri didn’t notice this even as obvious as it was.
Thankfully, the game with Manchester City came and the experience of a balanced team exposed Sarri. City had an intelligent midfielder in Kevin De Bruyne who needed an N’Golo Kante to keep him under check and stop the deadly supplies to the Sergio Aguero led attack. But when a player’s ego had been battered and bruised, you can only expect an average performance.
Sarri will live to regret condemning a player who since leading Leicester City from the middle of the pack team to glory has never looked back. He keeps winning trophies even for Chelsea plus his role for France at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The middle or centre of Chelsea was broken. It could not connect adequately with the attack and defence hence the disgrace by City. The errors of Sarri overtime was exposed in that game. If Chelsea fails to easily or smoothly pick a Champions League spot then, this may be Sarri’s last season at Stamford Bridge except Abramhovich thinks otherwise. But whatever the owner thinks could be altered by today’s game. The clock is ticking very fast even if Sarri’s watch will be stucked to 6 O’clock. Someone just has to tell the italian to wake up from his slumber and nightmare of City’s hammer…London Bridge is already weak under Sarri!
