As President Buhari Commissions Port Harcourt Airport Terminal Building in Rivers State, to those who think democracy or good governance is all about fighting, defecting and plotting the fall of others, you are damn wrong .
To those who think democracy is about pulling down others and abandoning projects that are not within your region, state, senatorial zone, Local government council or ward, you are not politicians.
To those who think democracy is about political parties you are failures and losers.
Democracy is not about all those. You are missing the point and target. Democracy is about people. It is about development. It is about making an impact by touching the lives of the people. It is about leaving behind solid legacies that the unborn generation can meet and benefit from. It is about continuity which is the fulcrum of government. It is about positive strides of and for good life. It is about making the people happy. It is about reaching out to others irrespective of their region, ethnic lining, religion or class. It is about building bridges of unity.
Democracy is not force. It is not to hate or hatred. It is not seeking vengeance. It is not building walls of disunity. It is not creating artificial borders. It is not creating segregation. It is not marginalizing people on account of their political affiliation, cultural belief or disagreement with your views.
It was fun to behold President Muhammadu Buhari commission the Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal Building in Rivers State today (25th Oct., 2018). Many had thought Mr. President will delegate his deputy for this duty given the political affinity of Rivers State even if, the Airport is a Federal project.
President Buhari accompanied by his Minister for Labour and Employment Chris Ngige, Minister of State Aviation Hadi Sirika, Mr Tonye Cole of Rivers APC and the Chief Host, Gov Nyesom Wike of Rivers State commissioned the Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal Building.
Watching Mr. President sit side by side Gov. Wike and throwing banter reveals the real essence of democracy, good governance and service to the people. It creates an ambiance of common interest and patriotism.
We must not all belong to the same political party to move the nation forward. We must not all come from one biological family to give the nation it’s deserving service. Even as we approach the 2019 election, it must not be a do or die affair.
