The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has said the Buhari-led government has reduced the Presidency to Kunle Bamtefa's soap opera, Fuji House of Commotion. The party stated this while reacting to first lady, Aisha Buhari's recent attack on the Senior Assistant to President Buhari on Media […]
Mouth is created for talking and perhaps eating. But not all who have mouths talk. Some are dumb! Yet some talk meaningfully. When they don’t talk, their silence create confusion or even tension. They are the mouthpiece of many. Their mouths carry hope, courage, promises and fulfillment.
Many use their mouths recklessly. They forget that with mouth you can create or start a war….just like the mouth can make or bring about a lasting peace. They say things that are damaging. They say things that are destructive. They say things that divide rather than unite. They become agents of doom with their mouths. They lie, they abuse, they gossip, they slander, they peddle rumours and they curse. They make promises, pledges and vows they cannot fulfill. They dash hopes. They kill morale. They break bonds.
Those whose mouths fall under this category most times are politicians. During election period like this, they woo the electorate with honey coated words like a man asking a woman out for a date. They make vows but months after the election they double speak. They attempt in futility to interpret or explain their earlier vows. They lie to cover up another lie….and they keep on lying like it’s out of fashion. They are perpetual and pathological liars. Not all though!
They lose trust among the people. They use their mouths to rundown themselves. No one believes them anymore. Their goodbye becomes welcome….and their good morning becomes goodnight. With their mouths they attract hatred to themselves. Their mouths become too slippery that everything and anything that comes out of them are not taken seriously. They use their mouths to mar even themselves.
Their mouths become weapon of mass destruction. In a bid to make amends or defend themselves and the values they stand for, they utter unbelievable words which create more damage, confusion and like they say in politics, they overheat the polity.
Politicians must appreciate the fact that all they say are kept as record for tomorrow. …and such records become reference points which hunt them and their careers later or afterwards. The fact that the masses now take words from politicians with a pinch of salt should worry the latter. The people nod deceptively to convince the politicians that they are listening and taking each word seriously but deep in their hearts it is a polite way of saying “Keep on lying”.
No matter how hard the politicians try to tell the truth, they are perceived as either half truth or full lie. The election is around the corner, we are listening again to another round of vows, pledges, promises and lies. 12 months after these lies….cometh denials that such were not said.
Worst of are politicians who say black before their colleagues and in their closet they call the same colleagues black. Oh, politicians use thou mouths well….
