The electoral body charged with the responsibility of conducting elections in Nigeria has released two dates for the governorship elections for two south west states. The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has slated the 18th of June for governorship election for Ekiti State. Ekiti state was created on Independence Day out of Ondo State in 1996. The state is one unique state where no incumbent governor has served two consecutive tenures. The first Ekiti State democratic governor Otunba Niyi Adebayo could not win his second term as an incumbent governor and that has been the trend. Dr. Kayode Fayemi who is the current governor is looking at 18th June 2022 elections to hand over to another candidate who might be the one to break the jinx in the nearest future.

Osun State which was created out of Oyo state on the 27th of August 1991 has witnessed five democratic governors and four Administrators. The incumbent governor of the state Adegboyega Oyetola who was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018 will be ready to lock horns with other governorship aspirants on the 16th of July 2022 as fixed by INEC.
