Will Imo State ever know peace? Are we expecting another shocking story in January 2021?
Imolites are still struggling to come to terms with the reality of January 14, 2020 judgement by the Supreme Court which sacked the Government or administration of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha after spending barely eight months in office.
As if that judgment which installed Senator Hope Uzodinma did not rattle the state and Imolites enough, the people are facing another round of litigation.
This time, it is from Senator Ifeanyi Araraume who has gone to court to challenge the victory of Frank Ibezim who was declared winner of the recently held Imo North Senatorial by-election.
As you read this, Imo North has no representative in the Senate after the demise of Senator Benjamin Uwajimogu. Before the election the aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been at daggersdrawn in the battle to authenticate the rightful ticket bearer of the party in the Imo North Senatorial by-election.
Enter another battle. This one is huge or do we say massive. The reverred Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Phillip Umeadi is praying the Supreme Court to interprete it's verdict on the Imo Governorship election debacle which shot out Uche Nwosu the candidate of the Action Alliance who moved out of APC to actualise his dream of contesting the election. The Supreme Court had faulted Nwosu on ground of double candidacy shortly before the election.
Nwosu, the doubles as son in-law and Chief of Staff of former Governor now Senator Rochas Okorocha came second in the election result behind Ihedioha.
But after sorting out the discrepancies that created confusion before, during and after the election, the Supreme Court in it's wisdom declared Uzodinma winner of the election.
Chief Umeadi is asking the Supreme Court to re-examine this judgement.
Indeed, this case and the anticipated verdict is overheating the polity as far as Imo State Government and Imolites are concerned.
Anxiety or tension now soak the political atmosphere in Imo just as it was the case before the Supreme Court judgement of January 14, 2020.
