Some days ago, I was at the opening ceremony of a friend’s lounge in his hotel when six heavy set plus-size girls stormed the event. They wore skimpy dresses. Immediately they entered, the focus shifted from the model-like babes to the new entrants. You could see a ship full of anger sail across the babes whose reign as favorites had been shortened.
This is the case in most events. The plus-sized or chubby girls have taken over. According to a club owner, he said “To say the truth, the real taste of women to the Nigerian man is those heavy duties. It was the white men who sold the idea of bony girls to us. With the big mamas, you have something to hold”.
In the past, chubby ladies found it difficult to fit in except for a few bold ones. Every man wanted the skinny girls while the chubby ladies were relegated to the background. The physical beauty of most chubby ladies was mostly overlooked due to their body structure. It was difficult for some men to even walk down the street with these ladies to avoid be mocked for walking with their mothers or aunts.
Popular celebrity Cossy Orjiakor was one of the few chubby women who came out bold with her huge assets. She could compete with the skinny models by flaunting her heavy chest to draw attention to herself. Alongside Cossy was another chubby celebrity known as Roman Goddess. With the likes of Cossy Orjiakor, gradually a lot of other plus-sized ladies came into the scene. The social media had been a big boost in the race to own the center stage. Chubby ladies now have several formed social platforms and communities such as Chubby Loving Nigeria on Facebook with 27,000 members. Earlier this year, some events for chubby women only were organized by one of such groups in Warri and Port-Harcourt. There are even fashion runaway events for the chubby group.
With Cossy Orjiakor getting old and gradually fading away, another sensational chubby goddess has emerged who go by the instagram name ada_la_pinky. Just like Cossy, she is very busty and flaunts her gifts on social media to the admiration of her current 2651 followers on her instagram. The Chubby ladies have taken over the center stage.
