NPFL : A Dying Product

Hmmmm….It does appear that our football managers have forgotten that our football league was once honourably sponsored by top brands like Bournvita, Pepsi and Globacom.

Today, our league seems defaced, mutilated and destroyed. The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is supposed to be a product. It is supposed to be a product that should attract goodwill….and by extension sponsorship. In fact, it is supposed to be have grown beyond a product into a top brand that should equally have top global brands falling on one another just to identify or relate with it.

But far from it. The product is like a leper. It stinks. The stench from it chases sponsors away. The NPFL itself cannot fly simply because it has been in the hands of undertakers for long. It is in the hands of persons who themselves have no image, no face and no personalities.

Therefore, they shameless leverage on the product (NPFL) to build their own reputations thereby succeeding in mudslinging the product, pulling it into the mud and rubbishing whatever is left of it.

There is an age long saying that, you are addressed the way you are dressed. How can someone or group of persons who cannot manage, handle or package themselves….have the technic to package a product? They don’t have the capacity to think or plan for the product to grow or blossom. I recall the Toyota advert message of the late 80s and early 90s “Good thinking, Good product!” Who thinks for the NPFL?

It hurts that the NPFL cannot attract a sponsor in about two seasons now. How can any sane sponsor put money on a product that is perceived to be packaged, handled or managed by persons with corruption allegation tied around them? It even hurts more when you read on the pages of newspapers that anti-graft agencies are chasing our football managers.

Only God knows when our product (NPFL) once sponsored by Bournvita, Pepsi and Globacom will attract a major sponsor. Perhaps not with the very terrible image that our present football managers court!
