The Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has shown Nigerians that the APC led government operates a democratic government and not a dictatorship style of administration when he sacked the DSS boss Lawal Daura over his action on the National Assembly. The Ag. President took this action when the DSS laid siege and locked out National Assembly members and other officials from entering the complex. According to Professor Osinbajo, all enforcement personnel that were involved in the unlawful takeover will be brought to book accordingly.
In a statement from the Ag.President which was made available through his Senior Special Assistant, Akande Laolu clearly indicated the presidency’s position. The statement read ”
“Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has described the unauthorized takeover of the National Assembly complex earlier today as a gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order.
“According to him, the unlawful act, which was done without the knowledge of the Presidency, is condemnable and completely unacceptable.
“By this statement, Professor Osinbajo is consequently assuring Nigerians that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.” (Source – The Punch Newspaper)
The DSS boss had taken laws into his hands when he besieged the National Assembly. The act was condemned and the general insinuation from different corners was that his actions was backed by the presidency to frustrate the Senate president and the National assembly over the issues of impeachment, resignations and defections.
Earlier on the DSS had said the order to lock down the National Assembly Complex was an order from above. From Osinbajo’s statements it simply means Lawal Daura has another authority other than the presidency that is giving him instructions. What made him to take such actions is a question that only him can actually answer.
