Political leeches

Soldiers of attachments

Political leeches

There is nothing like LIFE ABUNDANT for all citizens in any country, especially in a country as endowed as ours. How successive leaders of this country have made this life abundant look so much like rocket science in this Jet Age is nothing but baffling, although ironically these leaders and their families have ALWAYS enjoyed life abundant to the fullest at the state’s expense. You would think the comfort of the tree branch (citizen) is no longer the comfort of the bird (leader) that perches on the tree branch.
To live life abundant, manage ably, is to lean on any leader in power. Once the leader leaves office, frustration sets in and depression looms.
Those who hung on IBB soon attached themselves to Shonekan after the former beat a ragged retreat from the State House. After Shonekan’s misbegotten short reign, the hangers-on moved to Abacha. Then to Abubakar after Abacha got expired. No sooner had Abubakar relinquished power than the leeches shifted to the successor Obasanjo, then to Yar’Adua onward to Jonathan. After Jonathan lost his power of incumbency (some still say he abdicated), the hangers-on moved over to Buhari to continue the good life. Some who couldn’t be admitted into the “new fold” have since constituted themselves to threats on the polity while still hoping and secretly lobbying to be admitted but singing different tunes in public in hypocritical fashion.
As things stand, there is very little or no sweet life outside government and corridors of power. Little wonder virtually everyone these days is either an emergency politician or apologist/hireling of politicians. And the polity gets heated up like never before.
Pray, why would this country be so endowed and its citizens are made to wait for eternity to enjoy life abundant whereby crowds of people would ceaselessly depend on a few individuals to enjoy the most basic things?
