The lovers of rock music had were held Spellbound last night 27th October at the Freedom Park, Onikan, Lagos State, Nigeria at the RockToberFest- Afrovibe organized by Rock Nation Nigeria. Rock music is a broad genre of popular music that originated as “rock and roll” in the United States in the early 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and in the United State.
The sound of rock is traditionally centered on the amplified electric guitar, which emerged in its modern form in the 1950s with the popularity of rock and roll. Also, it was influenced by the sounds of electric blues guitarists. The sound of an electric guitar in rock music is typically supported by an electric bass guitar, which pioneered in jazz music in the same era, and percussion produced from a drum kit that combines drums and cymbals.
One of the captivating features in rock music is head banging which is activated by the electric vibrations and high-powered sounds from the equipment and the lyrical fusion and this year’s RockToberFest never fell short of it. The high-powered and state of the art equipment was so “bad” that even if you are not a rock music fan, you are activated into head banging as long as you are in that vicinity.
The head banging reigning champion Korn was dethroned when the Head Banging Battle started with 6 contestants including one female head banger and a white guy. The electrical vibration this year was so “Captivating and Extra-ordinary” that Korn could not fathom how to handle the rock electrical waves but had to give in to defeat. The battle was so fierce between Barry the white and Bolaji the Black but Barry who was more creative won the day. Barry was crowned the 2018 Head Banging Champion.
This year’s acts had paraded good Lip Rock singers as well as fantastic rock artistes such as Rep J 360 (a Christian Rock music band), Nat Mark, and Scatter Vibration etc. Rep J stands for Representing Jesus and their performance started with the song “If you believe, you go defeat” and it actually brought everyone to stand on their feet. Nat Mark took to the stage with also played his popular song “Adesua” and the last act for the day was Scatter vibration which was a combination of Afro-beats and rock. The genre of music was Afro rock.
DJ Flenzy was on ground to thrill the audience with his unique and mesmerizing musical mix and fusion. DJ Flenzy was possessed by rock music itself all through the concert. He was an alien messenger sent from planet rock. Everybody was energized with Monster Energy and last night revealed the reason why the drink is monstrous in performance.
To crown it all Segun Dada aka Jaygo alongside Miss Hauwa and her rock pet dog gave the show the best anchoring such a high-powered concert needed.
