“Online influencer” wasn’t on the list of career choices when many of us hit the job market in search of a way to make a living but for a select number of people, it’s a viable – and potentially lucrative – way to make money. […]
Photos or pictures tell stories we were taught in school as Mass Communication or journalism students. But not all photos truly tell stories.
The photo of Super Eagles and Villareal winger, Samuel Chukwueze here speaks of comfort and wealth. This photo went viral shortly after he acquired the Ferrari car he is sitting on. Of course, it is expected for the photo to go viral after all, he is a “celebrity cum international footballer”.
But the mixed feelings which greeted the photo or do we say his purchase of the expensive Ferrari and attracted comments is a major source of concern to many including Yours Sincerely.
To some, Chukwueze is showing off wealth. This school of thought feels he must be reminded of saving for tomorrow as they have seen lots of ex-internationals who enjoyed good life during their active and playing days presently live in penury.
To the other school of thought, they felt Chukwueze is being reminded of doom awaiting players who lived exotic lifestyle while playing as he is doing at the moment. They felt if not checked and if he allows such lifestyle to get into his head, certainly, he is headed for the worst and the national team will surely bite from the dust of his fall (God forbids)
Indeed, both warnings are timely even as I know that lots of today’s footballers are learning or have learnt from the mistakes of their predecessors. They have been investing massively in properties.
However, we must appreciate that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and a host of other bigger football stars are living larger than Chukwueze yet performing excellently even at 30 plus. We can only pray, hope and wish Chukwueze develops in like manner to rule the world and enjoy the fullness therein.
He must appreciate that those who condemned his purchase of Ferrari do not wish him evil. They are merely hoping he does not go off the track of his career as he has achieved nothing yet at club and national team levels. He is just starting hence, he has to be cautious with life on the fast lane. A word they say is enough for the wise!
