Back when Huawei revealed the Mate X at MWC earlier this year, many considered it a better design than Samsung’s rival device. Rather than using a book-style form factor like the Galaxy Fold, Huawei’s phone uses an out-folding design that turns the single, 8-inch display […]
This equipment here is a ligature cutter. It is used in hospitals to cut tight fitted cord, rope or any other material for the purpose of hanging or strangulation.
Recently I dabbled into mental health and it opened my eyes into the mental health world. It is very complicated and I’ll save that for another day.
In mental hospitals, there are different presentations and I worked in the EDU (eating disorder unit) last night and had to be with a patient who had suicide and self harm risks (high) amongst others (water loading, self harm, self neglect, restricted diet, over- excersise, headbanging).
These are adults who look like malnourished 12 year olds.
To be with a suicidal patient, your administration level must be at arm’s length, meaning you should be able to reach them in event of self harm QUICKLY. You must even be with them in the loo 😊, that is where most ligature points are anyway.
You only need to remove your eyes for one second and they tie their ligature, I think that is part of the high pay mental health personnel get.
There are usually pointers, not necessarily triggers.
Anyway yesterday night this client went to the loo and within my eyesight produced a thin slice of her towel which she had hidden in her pyant and kpaka! tied it round her neck. Tight tight o.
Mental health workers who work in mental hospitals are dressed for mental war, kitted like warlords.
All these are suspended from the belt and within quick reach, one second of laxity to press the alarm could end your life.
I’ve always avoided and escaped suicidal patients, yesterday I had no choice.
I pressed the alarm and the whole ward blared up and without waiting for the response team, grabbed my cutter and approached the patient. Come and see struggle, I thought I was dreaming. She held on to my hand to grab the cutter while kicking and spitting and tearing at my skin. In the midst of dodging I slipped my forefinger under the tie and snapped it.
Then the response team breezed in.
