Why Africa? Why Always A Sad End?

Why Africa? Why Always A Sad End?

Just few African leaders die and are accorded the respect of or as heroes. Even when they start out as heroes they end up as vilians either because the powerful West use the media to rubbish them after coercing them to leave office disgracefully or their successor play up deadly tones by selling out both economically and politically to the ever domineering and interested West.

Sadly few years after their demise the citizens begin to lick their “wounds” full of regrets. Truth is the complexities of the continent and the manner leaders emerge either through dubious ballot box processes or creating upheavals to unsettle and unseat the incumbent give rise to the ways they are treated especially when they take orders from the oil, gold and diamond seeking imperialists.

And when they refuse to be stooges in the hands of the colonial masters, they are made to look like criminals with all manners of excuses and stories. We hear of gross human right abuses. We hear of looting of the treasury and how billions of dollars and pounds are stacked in foreign bank accounts and how they own oil refineries and estates among other properties in exclusive choice areas abroad.

Yet in the face of all these African leaders fail to learn. They keep falling into same trap. They keep falling victims of the mixture of bad leadership or governance and loyalty to foreign Lords. They refuse to toe the paths of Nelson Mandela, Julius Nyerere and Kenneth Kaunda among others.

It is end of an era for Robert Mugabe, the father of Zimbabwe….Yes he was. So many will still follow his wrong steps towards the end of his lifetime and leadership of a country and people who trusted and believed in him for 30 plus years before he lost his mind.

So who is next after Mugabe? Many African leaders have spent more than 20 years in power and still counting? Someobe attempted to stretch his here for additional five years to bring the total in his second missionary journey as leader to 13 but he was resisted. Who knows he may just have continued if all were silent. Before him, one tried to be life President before death took him out.

Who follows Mugabe as he follows the likes of Muamer Gaddafi, Mobutu Sese-Sekou and Gnassingbe Eyadema among others?

There is nothing for Mugabe to justify staying in power for 37 years before being forced out at the age of 93 just like Algeria’s Abdelaziz Bouteflika was forced to stop at 91 yet suffering from stroke or Omar Al-Bashar of Sudan.
