A lot of users on social platforms do not understand the dangers in following the crowd when they post all sorts of stuffs on their accounts. One thing they don’t know is how they have made themselves to be of lesser values to society. There so much fake news circulating all through the internet in recent times. Apart from the fake and unverified news, there are lots of biased and hate-filled speeches related to the present political campaigns in the 2019 Nigeria elections. And many users have joined the band wagon to help spread such information without realizing that they are endangering themselves.
Some have been identified as peddlers of fake news and information. Most of these people have jumped into the ship of fraudsters unknowingly and are branded as same. There are some girls who on a daily basis promote nudity and sexual jokes and yet they are looking for God-fearing men as spouse. Some have argued that what they post online does not reflect their kind of person.
How will your readers know, when you are not there to show them?
Some years ago, I was invited for an interview and it was during the session that one of the panelists asked about an article I had posted on my LinkedIn account that got me shocked. He asked if I was the one that wrote it and I told him yes. They had actually gone to my LinkedIn to know my kind of person.
A friend who works in the Human Resources department in one of the big firms told me that most of his colleagues in other firms carry out profiling on the applicants social platforms on Facebook and LinkedIn before they are contacted for interview. He showed me an example of a customer service candidate whose CV showed that he had friendly personality but on his Facebook account all his post were filled with hate.
His reply to a post on handling an angry customer was “Such people should not come near me or else I will give it back to you. I will tell you my mind.” There was another post where he wrote “If you are supporting this party (name withheld) then I will delete you even if you are my boss or family member”
A lot of social media users just repost information that they have not verified the authenticity. Some have got themselves into trouble for posting wrong information about people who don’t joke with their integrities.
Watch what you post on social media and stop following those who do not understand what the tenets of posting on social media platforms entails. Stop playing the tapes of your whole life on social media platforms just because you want everyone to see you as internet savvy.
